YVC New Orientation: Can’t make a YVC new volunteer orientation before any scheduled projects? Don’t worry, bring some friends and come to this quick half-hour session! Learn about our teen-only projects, our program and how to get involved in our volunteer projects after-school and on the weekends. All YVC volunteers must attend an orientation and bring their signed membership application before volunteering for their first HOM-YVC project.

Pine Rockland Project: The Institute for Regional Conservation’s Ecological Restoration Volunteer Program is seeking volunteers to help restore the pine rockland habitat in Miami-Dade County. The pine rockland habitat in Miami-Dade County has been reduced to less than two percent of its original extent by development. Only a few forest fragments remain. These forest fragments are home to many rare, threatened and endangered plant and animal species that are nearing extinction. IRC’s goal is to restore 50 to 60 acres of this habitat by engaging community volunteers to help with exotic plant removal and other restoration activities. Volunteers will also learn about the importance of this ecosystem from a knowledgeable IRC biologist. (15-20 volunteers)
