YOUTH VOLUNTEER CORPS (YVC) !

hANDS ON MIAMI - Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC):

Hands On Miami has launched it's new youth program called the HOM Youth Volunteer Corps, aka "YVC." The YVC logo debuted in the February issue of the HOM newsletter. Beginning in March 2005, projects appearing with the YVC logo will be reserved for YVC members only.

Ø       The HOM-YVC is a members-only youth led, youth driven volunteer program.

Ø       YVC Membership

- Open to any youth, ages 13 - 17, living in Miami-Dade County

- Must attend a 1 hour-youth orientation; return completed YVC application and volunteer waiver forms prior to volunteering

- Register an individual email address as your login to sign up for projects

- Make and keep your commitment to attend every project you sign up for

- Keep parents/guardians informed of YVC activities and your involvement

- Take an active role in the development of the projects, submit project ideas, and recruit

friends to join you!

- Complete questionnaires and online surveys in a timely fashion

Ø       Orientations convenient to you !

 - At your school or just prior to designated calendar projects

Ø       Variety of service projects!

- YVC gives its members a voice! Members suggest ideas for projects

- YVC staff and Youth Advisory Council (YAC) create, organize and manage the projects

- Monthly HOM newsletter and calendar-at-a-glance sent out to members listing projects

Ø       Flexibility to choose when you can and want to serve!

- Projects take place evenings/weekends during school year; weekdays/evenings/weekends during summer and holiday breaks

Ø       Technology at its BEST!

- Register your own email address on your member application

- Your Email address becomes your log-in and personal access to HOM website to sign up for projects

- Hands On Miami YVC tracks ALL your community service hours

- Print out a personal report to submit to your school- weekly, monthly, whenever you need it!

- Teen Talk on Tuesdays, weekly email with updates, news & happenings, referral projects!

Ø       Leadership opportunities

- Become a trained youth Project Coordinator (PC) and guide volunteers at projects

- Become a member of the Youth Advisory Council to make important decisions and direct the YVC vision

Ø       YVC experience is a Resume Builder!

- Great for those college applications

- Gain invaluable skills and on-the-job experience you can use for a lifetime
