Today, everyone is pressed for time and busy schedules leave little time for family activities. It is more important than ever that a family's time together is well-spent.  Through volunteering together, family members are able to spend quality time together while helping to meet the important needs in our South Florida community. Through volunteering, family members can use their unique talents and skills, and have the opportunity to see each other in a different light than they do at home. Family and community bonds are strengthened as a result.  Hands On Miami offers two options for Family and Youth Volunteering:

  1. The Evening and Weekend Volunteer Program offers many family-friendly volunteer projects through its monthly calendar.  In order to participate alone in this program, volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and attend a mandatory one-hour new volunteer orientation.  Youth volunteers may attend family-friendly projects only with the parent or guardian who attended the new volunteer orientation.  Minimum age requirements for the family-friendly projects vary, so check each project description for details.  For additional information, read our frequently asked questions, or contact  Cristin Forrest at 305-646-7204 or Cristin@HandsOnMiami.org .

  2. The Community Bridges Volunteer Program offers one large-scale project every month.   It is not necessary to attend a new volunteer orientation to participate in these projects and groups, families and individuals are encouraged to participate. Community Bridges projects are designed to bring people together from diverse cultures and backgrounds to work towards a common goal. When people volunteer together, barriers to understanding are diminished, thus enriching our community. Groups like the Girl Scouts, fraternities and sororities, youth groups, school groups and faith-based groups as well as individual volunteers are encouraged to participate.   Individual volunteers and families are also welcome. To volunteer without an adult, you must be at least 16 years of age or older and all volunteers must bring a Hands On Miami volunteer release waiver signed by a parent or guardian with them to each project.  For more information, read our frequently asked questions  or contact Bobbi Wald at 305-646-7207 or Bobbi@HandsOnMiami.org.

As a service to our community, we have compiled a Youth Volunteer Guide listing additional youth volunteer opportunities.  These opportunities are not organized nor sponsored by Hands On Miami.
