In the 1910s James Deering had requested a landscape full of orchids in the forests surrounding the North Lawn of Vizcaya.  
 
Volunteers will work alongside Vizcaya’s Curator of Orchids to bring Deering’s vision to life by helping to maintain Vizcaya’s orchid collection and preparing orchids for exhibit throughout the historic property. 
 
Tasks will include pulling weeds, repotting and moving items around the greenhouse and ensuring the greenhouse is in proper order.  

 


Need to know:

 

  • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. 
  • Bring gardening/work gloves if you would rather not use previously used gloves.
  • Wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty.  If coming from work, consider packing a quick change of clothes for the experience!
