Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund
 
Are YOU a Leader?
Take a lead with Hands On Miami and become a Volunteer Leader (VL) for a calendar project or new volunteer orientation! HOM is looking for a few good volunteers who are ready to step up to the plate and support projects as a leader. Build A More Beautiful Miami-Dade

The Build a More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund allows Hands On Miami to support community-based agencies lacking adequate supplies or funding necessary for much needed upgrades and improvements.

Every dollar invested in the Fund provides project supplies and resources for agencies in need. On Wednesday, May 28th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm we will be holding the Second Annual Mayors' Reception. Watch the mail for your invitation to this exclusive event to learn how you can help the Build a More Beautiful Miami-Dade Fund empower our community.

HOM welcomes volunteers of all ages & levels of ability in our programs. We believe that we can strengthen our community by providing service opportunities for all. HOM will provide American Sign Language interpreters and alternate communication formats with a minimum of 5 working days notice. Please refer to each project/course for minimum ages.

Storm Prep Expo 2008 -- May 31-June 1

It has been three years since South Florida has had any significant storm activity. Thousands of new people have moved into the area with no hurricane preparedness experience. Storm Prep Expo 2008 will feature special guests, police and fire-rescue demonstrations, first aid courses, the Florida Marlins Mermaids and family activities. Volunteers are needed to help ensure the event goes well by acting as greeters, information desk helpers, and many more. To learn how you can get involved, please CLICK HERE

3rd Annual ServiceJuris
This day of service for the legal community to participate together in a hands-on volunteer experience will be held on Saturday, May 17th. Help revitalize the Dade Juvenile Detention Center by painting murals, planting flowers, and creating gardens. Register online early for this popular event! Sponsorships are still available.

The 76th Annual U.S. Conference of Mayors

The Annual U.S. Conference of Mayors Host Committee invites volunteers from South Florida to participate in this grand event taking place from June 20-24, 2008 in Miami.

Volunteers are needed beginning June 19th. Volunteer roles consist of serving as support staff at the conference hotel, meeting room attendants, airport greeters, special event staff and more. How much of an impact can YOU make in a year?

Ready to make a change in your world? Hands On Miami is seeking full-time AmeriCorps members to join our team in serving the Miami-Dade community in a variety of ways through their direct service and the volunteers they mobilize. This position involves volunteer recruitment, developing projects that address community needs, and establish new relationships with non-profit agencies. AmeriCorps members learn new presentation skills, acquire qualities of leadership, and gain the satisfaction of seeing their ideas put into action while directly improving people’s lives.

The 2008-2009 service year begins September 1, 2008 and ends August 31, 2009. Applicants must be 18 years old, able to commit to a year of service and full-time hours.
