https://foodrescue.us/Food Rescue US-Miami is the Miami hub for National non-profit, Food Rescue US. Food Rescue US (FRUS) is a National 501c3 non-profit currently in 20 locations in the US. Using app technology, donors and rescuers are connected to receiving agencies and shelters. The FRUS-Miami site launched in spring 2018. The mission is not only to reduce food waste, but also through direct transfer to deliver healthy, good food to homeless shelters and food insecure. National stats show that 40% of all food is wasted, while 1 in 7 people go hungry. Decomposing food in landfills also contributes to greenhouse gas and methane gas production resulting in adverse climate change and global warming. Harmful methane gas accounts for nearly 25% of man-made global warming. FRUS-Miami has in it's first 9 months rescued over 40,000 lbs of food and delivered to local shelters where is produced over 27,000 meals. Major donors include Hard Rock Stadium, Whole Foods, Starbucks and local restaurants and big events.
